I think it is important to use a flash file system to distribute the
writes. That is why we have projects such as YAFFS for instance. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YAFFS Here is another entry that explains why ext2 is not good for flash file systems: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JFFS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JFFS2 I have two PC/104 battery backed ram modules I will probably not use because they are so bulky, only hold 2 meg, and 2 Gig SD flash is so cheap and so small. But, if you were really worried, you could do all of your logging to battery backed ram, then copy only complete blocks to the flash card. We need to create a HOWTO for doing datalogging to flash memory. Even if you had to buy new SD cards every five years, it might still be cheaper and more reliable than purchasing a mini hard drive.
