USB RS232 adapters can be opened as /dev/ttyUSB0, /dev/ttyUSB1, etc. Same rules apply as with a standard serial port. Be aware that USB serial ports may or may not act like a real serial port. I've had issues with them in the past. For instance, a program of mine that does non-canonical serial I/O on a standard serial port will not work with a USB serial port.
