We wanted to use some of our JTAG ICE tools on the TS-7200, but
the board does not bring out the JTAG lines from its
Cirrus ARM9 CPU. One of our very steady-handed techs managed
to solder the required lines directly onto the CPU pins
to connect a dongle to it that attached to our Abatron emulator.
et viola!
We can debug the bootloader.
No more "bricked" boards because we can now reflash bootloader
and Redboot.
The only strangeness is that one must press the board's reset
button to get it to start execution after resetting the CPU
with the ICE. This is probably needed to clear the external
watchdog and/or reset other programmable logic on board.
But I'm not sure.
The required board mod is not easy due to the fine pitch
of the CPU pads. Just bringing those JTAG pins
out to pads in the pattern of _some_ 8 pin connector would be
a great help to developers.
It would add nothing to the prime cost of the board.
So, why not?
Maybe on the next board spin?
