  You can't boot from a USB flash drive since redboot doesn't have USB
drivers. What we do for TS-7250 is provide an example of how to chroot
to the USB flash drive(these are the scripts you are mentioning).

  To chroot to a USB flash drive, you need to load the appropriate USB
modules.

  insmod usbcore
  insmod pcipool
  insmod usb-ohci
  insmod usb-ohci-ep93xx
  insmod scsi_mod
  insmod sd_mod
  insmod usb-storage

This will create a /dev/ entry for the USB flash drive, now you can mount
the USB flash drive and chroot to it if you would like...
