[pwc] make error

A question from linux newbie..

When trying to compile the spc900n driver on Mandrake 2007 Free, I'm getting such a response:

 pwc-10.0.12-rc1]# make
make -C /lib/modules/2.6.17-5mdv/build SUBDIRS=/home/user/Desktop/pwc-10.0.12-rc1 modules
make[1]: Entering directory `/lib/modules/2.6.17-5mdv/build'
make[1]: *** No rule to make target `modules'.  Stop.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/lib/modules/2.6.17-5mdv/build'
make: *** [all] Error 2

Using the Makefile as available from http://saillard.org/linux/pwc/files/pwc-10.0.12-rc1.tar.bz2

Any suggestions would be higly appreciated.
