I followed Your proposal to change pwc-if.c in the tar ball
pwc-v4l2-20060106-042701.tar.bz2.tar (all 0x8b1 substituted by 0x8ae).
The whole thing compiled smoothly and 'make install' 'depmod'ed the
driver (of course after the removal of the old driver !).

After attaching the Wecam to an USB port I started the 'xawtv' program
