 When:  Friday, June 21 - Sunday June 23, 2019





 Nature Sounds Society will hold its annual field workshop at the Sierra Ne=
vada Field Campus of San Francisco State University, beside the scenic nort=
h fork of the Yuba River. Participants will learn recording techniques hand=
s-on in the field, visiting marsh, meadow, and forest soundscapes. The even=
t will offer informative lectures and field trips by experienced sound reco=
rdists with the opportunity to use a variety of equipment. Meals and platfo=
rm tent lodging are included.





 Invited speakers include Heidi Ware Carlisle, Director of Education and Ou=
treach at the Intermountain Bird Observatory, Boise State University, will =
describe her work on the "phantom road" experiment observing the changes in=
 bird population that resulted when recorded road noise was played in an ot=
herwise pristine environment. She will also describe a subsequent experimen=
t revealing directly how the foraging behavior of a bird species was altere=
d by road noise.





 Audio Engineers Dan Dugan, Steve Sergeant, and Greg Weddig, who have "adop=
ted" Yosemite, Henry Coe, and Lassen Volcanic Parks, respectively, will des=
cribe how cooperating with park research programs provides opportunities to=
 make recordings with both scientific and artistic value.





 Each speaker has a unique point of view of the natural world and vividly e=
xpresses themself through art, environmental activism, and education. The w=
orkshop has intensive one-on-one instruction with a variety of equipment an=
d field techniques as well as lectures, and the opportunity to meet people =
with backgrounds in a variety of different professions.





 Early bird registration received before June 7 costs $249 for members, and=
 $299 for non-members. After June 7, the fee will be $299 for members and $=
349 for non-members.
