Gerrit,
Rob's university website with the boundary mics blog and archives,
crashed a few years ago. The server was "upgraded" causing the
website to become obsolete. The same thing happened with my own
website which I then had to rebuild. Rob told me that he still had
all the files from the boundary mics blog.
As a very rough guide, some tests that I did showed some individual
variation in the EM172 mics, but also that with SASS there was a
slight boost in the birdsong range, about 3 dB. It would be easy to
EQ that away, just make a dip of 3 dB and you would be back to a flat
response again. My test compared SASS with EM172s with open EM172s.
The same boost happens with other mics as well.
There was not as much boost with the Olson Wing.
Some of my comparisons with different rigs are shown, with sound
files, on my website caperteebirder.com e.g. SASS vs Olson Wing.
