Hi all. The 2017 was a terrible year for a bird song recordist where I
live and not only here. It started okay with a mild winter and lots of
peeping small birds, but when the spring was just a week old, it turned
back into some kind of late winter. In May there were very few insects,
no bees or wasps or misc flies. It was the first spring in 20 years
without even a Pied Flycatcher or Garden Warbler. In July - Sept there
were no apples, no pears, no plums, only very high grass that had got
wind pollinated. Listening to recordings I made in 1995, its another
world, almost. The spooky thing is that no big changes have happened
locally, I mean that the same farmers as 25 years ago work at the same
fields as then and in the same ways. There was a new highway built in
2005 about 5 km away, but I never noticed a sudden change except a
little more traffic noise.
There has been some German research published lately where they conclude
that the amount of insects trapped during 25 years, have lost 70% of
their total weight.
It=B4s so depressing.
Volker? Are you here?
I try to cheer up with three tracks from 2016 at:

After many consultations I have changed the text at the fourth track.
Be careful with the Great Black Woodpecker. Start listening at a low level.
Hope you enjoy.
