I think you are probably wanting to record a much talked-about wind phenomenon
that is quite different from the kind of thing you are going to record at the
top of high ground. Instinctively, in a way I can't explain, I say go for a
location quite tucked away in the lower altitudes.

Wind is such a mixed bag. In a lot of ways it's like doing a contact mic
recording of an object that you activate with another object (e.g. drum & drum

Yes, record wind at the top of the mountain. Yes, record it at the bottom.
Record it in the eaves of the cabin. Record it in the branches of the trees.
Record it in the crevices of the rocks. Wherever you find a neat sound, the
answer's yes. For me wind is a lot like rivers and waves. Every time I record
it I can't help thinking, "Well THAT's different."

P.S. To tie back into the previous discussion of parabolics, I just recorded
wind in a koa tree using a parabolic mic. You can hear each leaf clattering
against its neighbor. No wrong way to record wind. #yiv3662810137

2. Soundscapes of spring

Dear Nature Recordists,
I invite you to listen to our latest release:
Soundscapes of spring, by Izabela Dłużyk
https://zvukolom.bandcamp.com/album/soundscapes-of-spring
After her well recognised LOM debut “Soundscapes of summer” Izabela
comes back with a new field recording work, focusing on soundscapes of
spring. Various closeup recordings of blackbirds, mistle thrushes,
golden orioles and many others are joined by natural ambiences of
endangered Bialowieza primeval forest, Siemianowka lake or Biebrza
marshes.
“As I am blind since birth, I have always been particularly sensitive
to sounds. When I was a child, I became interested in bird voices, which
soon led me to discover nature recording. I started with a noisy,
hissing tape recorder, but what treasures those recordings seemed to me
at that time! Now, sixteen years later, I am still following my passion,
but with a fully professional equipment. Through recording the natural
world, I try to capture its beauty, its subtle music, its gentle voice.
I try to understand its mystery: the mystery of life – this
indescribable treasure we share with all the creatures, the mystery of
fleeting moments, of sadness and hope brought by changing seasons... It
is through observing nature that I have received perhaps the greatest
lessons regarding the meaning of life in general and the meaning of my
own life. Through my recordings, I hope to share with you some glimpses
of wisdom and beauty of the natural world.” – Izabela Dłużyk
All profits will be donated towards environmental protection.
Regards,
Jonas Gruska / LOM
