Hello Gregory,=0D
=0D
Thanks for the advice, I have just bought the Fostex and chose it on the ba=
sis of the preamp values from the table on Avisoft. Its close to mint condi=
tion and for =A3140 I didn't think I could do better. And, I hope to eventu=
ally add a Naiant IPA to my sony M10 which, with line input should bring my=
preamp noise down to -124dBA as well as giving full voltage to the mics.=
=0D
=0D
The cables I bought are Van Damme tour grade with neutrik connectors. I hav=
e a large collection of rechargeable AA batteries and have eight living in=
the Fostex bag at the moment, but plan to replace with a couple of Tamiya =
batteries, as you suggest, so the tip on which ones to buy is useful.=0D
=0D
I have Senn HD25s, for headphones, and the very cheap, but remarkably good,=
Xiaomi Mi In Ear Headphones Piston 3. The latter, with the Sony, live in =
my camera bag. =0D
=0D
I have a 21" parabolic dish, made by Ian Brady of the WSRS, a Rode Smart La=
v+, a Rode Video Mic pro and a pair of FEL made EM172s for the Sony. =0D
=0D
So although I would like a different set of headphones for editing, I am pr=
etty well fixed, just need to work on the Mic part. =0D
=0D
First step, which may seem odd, is to get another set of EM172s, with XLRs,=
from Jonas, so I can run them into the Fostex, either as a pair for stereo=
, or as single mic in the dish. Though, I am now questioning the wisdom of =
this, and thinking that a single AT4022, to use in the dish (I can't afford=
two), and then a second AT4022 at a later date to give a stereo pair might=
be a better long term approach. It seems they aren't available as matched =
pairs so buying this way should be OK. I need to think about this.=0D
=0D
With an interest in birds I have always wanted to record bird song, but I'm=
now really interested in doing short videos that have good quality soundsc=
apes, combined with some more detailed sounds. My latest exercise, is bumb=
le bees in a hibiscus where I had the EM172s clipped in the bush running to=
the Sony, and the Videomic pro recording to the camera. Which has turned =
out slightly odd as the short shotgun is giving more of an ambient sound th=
an the omis !=0D
=0D
Just need to find the time to edit it now.=0D
=0D
This seems to have ended up rather longer than intended !=0D
=0D
Thanks again,=0D
