I am looking for 8 channel portable recorder with phantom power.
I am looking to build a 4 binaural rig consisting of 8 mic's would like to
power them with 48v or pip.
What direction should I consider?
What hardware would give me 8ch pip or 8ch phantom?

the new Zoom F8 appears to be the right solution for around 1000€, compact,
8 P48 inputs, good quiet preamplifiers (but I don't have comparative
measures to prove). Can also be used as 8 ch audio interface on Macs and
PCs.

By all accounts, a decent machine. Weighs under 1kg and at Sweetwater in the US
under 900 ($999.99).

Hi,
Unless are you are prepared to spend £6k on a 688 and extra pre-amps, your
only real option is the Zoom F8. It is quite astonishing value for money
but I haven't used one personally yet.

I’m using an F8. I’m a Sound Devices dealer so this hurts! Preamps are quiet,
features adequate if your fingers are small. Records only to SD cards. Short
life AA battery pack only useful for bridging between NP1 external batteries.
Uses the same external power connector as the Sound Devices recorders. Suggest
using it with SD’s NP cup and IDX's two-batteries-plus-charger outfit. With six
phantom mics I got over ten hours per NP1 battery.
Use Niant PIP adaptor for PIP mics.

I have one, not yet an expert about it, but if you need specific tests I
could connect quiet microphones such as AT3022, AT4022 and Rode NT1 last
series.

Hi Bernie, I am not sure what you mean. The sweat water search results show a
mod synth and few book and accessories.

Yes,
the F8 is the one to go.
If you have some more budget you can find some Sound Devices 788T second
hand. I have both and are working flawlessly.
