It sounds like there are water boatmen in the mix, Zach. And it also sounds=
 like you may have some insect larvae, if not tadpoles (aside from the frog=
s). But to be sure, you=92ve got to get a pail and shovel and, assuming you=
=92ve laid the h-phone on the bottom of the pond in or very close to the mu=
ck, dig some samples of the sediment, isolate the organisms (you=92ll proba=
bly need a microscope), and see if you can identify them.

That=92s what I had to do when I first recorded these vernal pool critters =
in 1984 near Mono Lake in California. To be sure, it=92s a messy job. But i=
t=92s worthwhile if you really want to get good IDs.
