Not rubbish I'm afraid. I used to work for the BBC and it is publicly
financed from the TV licence without advertising and are increasingly
strapped for cash for political reasons. They can only pay contributors -
artistes, production etc - for UK showing. This financing gives the BBC a
lot of freedom as they don't have to make their programmes to appeal to
commercial interests.
The BBC has a commercial wing which sells shows on DVD and sells
transmission rights to other countries and this gives them an extra income=
but they can't afford to show free to non-contributing countries.
As a BBC licence payer, I subsidise the UK internet access to recorded
programmes shown on BBC iPlayer, but I would not like to have to pay more t=
o
provide world-wide viewing rights for remarkable programs like Snow Wolf
Family.
