Problems with Sennheiser ME66/K6

Dear fellow recordists,

Last week I encountered a problem with my Sennheiser ME66/k6 while in the
field - when I switched it, as I always have done, the volume appeared normal
on my recorder (Olympus ls-10) for around 30 seconds, then suddenly decreased.
Since then it has become lightly worse - every time I switch it on, it's good
for 5 seconds, then decreases to the point that only if I talk at normal volume
just 10cm from the mic will it pick up the noise!

Can anyone suggest what may be the issue here, or possible solutions? My
problem is I'm in Malaysia with next-to-no professional audio repair shops so
it's a little frustrating!

The recorder itself appears to be fine - as soon as I plug out the mic, then
the internal mic works fine.

 Many thanks in advance,

 James
