I'm trying. Wanting a compact and versatile equipment setup to record so=
undscapes while traveling abroad I purchased a pair of Telinga clip-on omni=
mics to use with my PMD 661 recorder. Closer to home I have been recordin=
g with a self made Jecklin disc array and a pair of Sennheiser MKH 20's wit=
h a cage and fake fur surrounding it that some of you may have seen at Dan =
Dugan's. I'm pleased with that setup's performance. It was suggested that =
I try clipping theTelinga mics to a tree trunk to get similar results witho=
ut a lot of bulky gear. Here is a link to an early morning recording in Oa=
kland's Redwood Park using the clip-ons with foam pads and a strap to hold =
things to the tree. I think the sound is pretty good with low noise level a=
nd a feeling of space. I would appreciate opinions and suggestions from th=
e members out there. This may be a solution so long as there is a tree.

Beautiful! I think Bernie Krause invented the term "tree ears" for that tec=
hnique. I use it frequently when backpacking with my "light system." I tie =
a cord around the tree and clip the mics to that.

Only problem I've had was clipping the mics to a stump where something was =
chewing inside. They are quite good contact mics when the clip is in the mi=
c enclosure. But the clip can be pulled out of the mic to de-couple it.
