Seems ironic that the military can have such a positive influence on preser= ving quiet places. The quietest place that I have personally visited is De= sert NWR, which is adjacent to the Nellis Bombing Range and the Nevada Test= Site. Most of the refuge is a no-fly zone to commercial and private aviat= ion. The military has agreed not to fly over the refuge, as well. I'm not= sure that it serves our purpose to keep quiet about our favorite quiet pla= ces. I think that our cause is better served by publicizing the availabili= ty of places without human noise, so that other places that are marginally = quiet might be made quieter with public awareness and encouragement. =0D =0D Fred B. |
