Hi Eric,
I have a friend who has been in agricultural consulting for 30 years in
developing counties, mainly in Asia and Africa. Having made a couple of
trips with her to Mongolia & China several years ago I trust her judgement
completely. Her firm advice is to *never ever* drive a car in those places,
particularly in cities.
It's not all that uncommon for desperate souls to risk life and limb by
creating an 'accident' that might afford them the opportunity to sue the
apparently wealthy foreign tourist. It can be a terrible predicament.
Also, a driver has a vested interest in keeping you out of trouble, if he
wants to get paid, not to mention being a gold mine of local information
with the time to dispense it.
Have great trip!
k
