Yeah we have heard and recorded this sound from Tawny owls as well.



Can't enlighten you as to the reason, but it was toward the end of Autumn w=
e
recorded this in the UK.

Just had a listen and not heard this before, though a quick search brought
up a binding blog that mentions God's own clay as the sound source.

On Ashe's bird blog it says this is done by either sex and during courtship=
.
It is usually only audible for around 50metres from the birds.
