Hey folks.
I've a question. =A0I've been building simple stereo mic's using Primo 172 =
capsules. =A0In the past, I simply soldered them directly to the raw ends o=
f a split 3.5mm to RCA(10ft), wire harness. =A0(building the capsules into =
housings of course). =A0 My question is this, I have 10 capsules yet to use=
, and would like to experiment with a "modular" mic set up. =A0My idea is t=
hat instead of direct=A0attachment of a single capsule=A0to the main wire, =
I wonder if I could utilize the existing plug(of whatever kind is best, be =
it RCA, 3.5mm), and instead, build the capsules=A0themselves=A0into stand a=
lone housings that could in turn be plugged into the existing main wire. =
=A0 Vicky Powys(among others) has used a duo capsule system to improve perf=
ormance, and I think "in theory" I could create a system that would allow m=
e to use either single or double mics/capsules per channel, via the use of =
a short additional split harness on each channel end that would in turn all=
ow me
to attach two mics per channel. =A0 =A0This would result of course in two =
extra connector plugs per channel(as opposed to the simple direct solder me=
thod I use now), BUT, it would allow me to again, use either standard singl=
e mic/cap per channel OR duo cap. =A0 My understanding is that duo mic's/ca=
ps use a bit more power, thus draining batteries quicker, but do give somew=
hat improved noise=A0performance. =A0 =A0At the end of the day, do you guys=
think this is a viable plan? =A0 Would the two additional connection point=
s in any way degrade performance(add in noise, reduce gain/volume)? =A0 =A0=
I understand that connection points need to be protected from moisture, and=
have plans on how to do that, but IF the additional point don't degrade pe=
rformance=A0noticeably am I missing anything else? =A0 On top of the abilit=
y to use single or double capsules per channel, this would also allow me to=
very easily match up the capsules(which right now, is nearly impossible du=
e to
their needing to be wired up to test...at which point you then have to tea=
r each one apart and start anew over and over, which is really just not goi=
ng to happen!). =A0 =A0Anyway...think this is viable? =A0Am I off my rocker=
? =A0 Thoughts?=A0
