I think that this not an issue anymore with modern operational amplifiers. =
The
spec sheets of the best recorders with transformer-less inputs all exhibit =
an
EIN of -130 dBu(A), which I believe cannot be surpassed by transformer-base=
d
preamps.

specifically optimized for mic preamps:
