By "peak frequency" the insect folks mean the loudest frequency, I 
think.

We see the same dyslexia with bat calls. :-) Frequencies can't he 
loud. That's why I like to use the terms "peak level frequency" (in 
Hz) and "peak frequency level" (in dB) when discussing spectrograms to 
avoid getting into a muddle.
