Very interesting!

For the last week I've been doing the same thing, recording hummingbirds at=
 a feeder using Shure MX391/O mics in a "tree ears" configuration on the po=
st supporting the feeder.

Hummingbirds are amazingly noisy and surprisingly aggressive.  At our feede=
r, sometimes there are 4-5 of them competing and aggressively attacking eac=
h other.

Anyway...  for this sort of thing the MX391's work quite well (into a Sony =
D50, in my case).   I also got tips for using these mics from John Hartog a=
nd Mike Rooke.  Nature Recordists is an incredible resource.

I'm working on wiring small mics directly onto the feeder.  I'll post the r=
esults.
