Klas, the Zoom H1 has a step up converter built into it for voltage, as 
I assume any other recorder with a single-cell battery supply would.

I was also trying to learn about PIP supplies several months ago and 
took over an effort that Nick Roast started a few years ago to collect 
data.  If you want to view data, there is a spreadsheet here:
