Hi Laura, > Can you say what you mean by the gain needing to be set at a fixed level = so that the sound doesn't clip? It was fixed, so I don't think that would b= e an issue. I think Vicki means that you should always set the gain to a fixed level (t= o avoid variable gain throughout your recording) and that that level should= be chosen so that no clipping occurs (i.e. if the level is too high, the p= eaks of loud sounds fall outside the recordable range and will be "clipped"= ). Clipping is a problem that probably has nothing to do with the "silent = space problem" that you see. To me it looks like a variable gain problem, b= ut if you are certain that gain was fixed, then I am very curious to hear o= ther explanations. Perhaps Raimund's suggestion of a compressed audio forma= t?? If you can, please upload the actual sound file as H=E5kan suggests. Best, Gabriel |
