Googling around, there's this ref on British Library to what I can only des=
cribe as "historic fish recordings" (which on typing it has made me smile) =
...

"The British Library Sound Archive has recordings of 250 different fish spe=
cies. A small collection of sounds of marine fish by A.D. Hawkins, some rec=
ordings of freshwater species and a number of American and Russian discs ar=
e of unusual interest."

And theres a 1968 recording by Hawkins of a haddock here http://cadensa.bl.=
uk/uhtbin/cgisirsi/x/0/0/5?searchdata1=3Dhaddock01&library=3DALL done with =
"Admiralty hydrophone with Brook-Deal amplifier, Nagra IIIB tape recorder, =
19 cms"

I'm particularly liking the ref to to "Russian discs" of "unusual interest"
