Hi John. I enjoyed them all - nice morning of bird song!
I have yet to have a cable chewed by a rodent, perhaps this is because I us=
e fairly short, ten foot, cables - or perhaps I've just been lucky.
Same thing with a soldering iron - I have never had to use it for an emerge=
ncy repair in the field. I have tried a couple of the portable irons, a bat=
tery powered one did not get hot enough, and the butane one was sort of bot=
hersome to keep refilled. Bernie's recommended iron is probably good - migh=
t be great for backpacking. For car trips, I keep a power inverter and an e=
lectric iron in my tool kit.

> Unfortunately during the morning recording I lost the Right channel and o=
nly determined later that a rabbit had chewed most of the way through my mi=
c cable. Mogami must be tasty. Has anyone out there experienced this probl=
em? I hope it won't be a common occurrence.

> While hiking with my parabolic mic I chanced upon a Steller's Jay that wa=
s making vocalizations I've not heard before. It was foraging on a large sy=
camore down in narrow little Bear Creek gulch and sounding a bit thrasher-l=
ike. It went on and on and I recorded several 30+ second cuts . Here is a =
short take before logistics put too much stream and wind noise into the rec=
ordings. http://soundcloud.com/johnny-b-11/stellers-jay-pinnacles-4-20-12
