Thanks for the response, Ben.

I'm looking for a "budget" quiet mic even less expensive than the AT4022's =
- which I've bought a pair but only got one (I've had them sent separately =
to avoid 60% customs taxes and one of them got "lost" on the way).

Now I'm gathering information on how to build a Primo EM172. There are quit=
e a few good links to DIY methods here in the list.

Luis

No I haven't, Luis. I have a PFA phantom to plug-in power module which I'm =
very happy with, and am considering a Tinybox for my M10. It seems that Nai=
ant mics are very well regarded sonically, but being aimed at music rather =
than nature recording they are not super quiet (but not too bad - the U-O o=
mni is 15dBa).

022s connected to an ATI ML200 pre-amp (with 48V phantom) then connected to=
a Tascam DR-100 (utilizing the line input). BTW, I already own the Tascam=

ing the Tascam with a single Sennheiser K6 (ME 66 capsule) for natural soun=
dscape recordings. The mic is borrowed from a friend and eventually I'll h=
ave to return it. When the sound level was high enough, I thought my recor=
dings where OK, not great but adequate. I've learned by experience and rea=
ding that while the mic is really sensitive, it's a bit noisy. I've also l=
earned that the Tascam's pre-amps are really noisy.

a hobby to me, and I only have about a thousand dollars to spend on mics a=
nd a pre-amp. I've listen to some recordings made with the 4022s that soun=
ded great. I plan to install the mics in a homemade SASS configuration. I=
've also heard that using the Tascam recorder's line input is pretty clean,=
too. I haven't heard much about the ATI pre-amp. Its specs seem good, bu=
t I'm not sure whether the phantom supply can power two 4022s or for how lo=
ng. What do you guys think? Is this a good mid-level approach or a mid-le=
vel waste of money?
