Thanks, Tom! I'm still giving it a listen and I do agree that the mx391s are more crisp with a tiny smidge less bass, but one of the things that i am most curious about is a camparison of self noise between the two mics. Is it possible to repeat the setup in Chest Wood or Charity Wood when it is very quiet just before dawn? I guess that I am making an assumption that one of these woods could be quiet; perhaps you know of a better place. The other need is to use the same recorder for both mic rigs and try to get the gain matching down. Maybe use some pink noise on a boom box to set the reference level to the same spot before recording. I have ordered some mx391s from eBay and should receive them soon. We'll see what happens, then! Take care, Greg |
