Peter,

The plug-in-power of the recorder can only supply enough power for
two capsules per side, and only some recorders can handle it.  Using
an Olympus LS10, I have found there is an approximate 3 dB
improvement in the signal using two capsules per side instead of one
per side.

There is a picture of my 'SASS Lite' design that uses two EM172
capsules per channel, you can see how I've inset them into the
boundary surface, about half way down the page, here:
