Dan,

Reminds me of filming an early police drama "Softly Softly" when they
came out with a story line about a mic which could pick up
conversations several streets away. Props had made a wooden replica of
a long gun mic which had cost a fortune to make, and the squad car
policemen drove around with it waving out of a window without a
windgag. The director was very enthusiastic about this story line and
was explaining to everyone what a marvellous new invention it was - as
it said in the script.

I said to the director at one stage: "I've got one of those in the
back of my car, it's called an MKH805 and it's not much better than
the mic we're using and it costs three quid per day to hire. Oh the
callownees of youth. :-) He did not look pleased.
