Tascam has introduced a gadget that adds a pair of mics and preamp to an iP=
hone. The gadget, called the iM2, plugs into the dock connector on the bot=
tom of the phone. The phone provides power and storage of the captured aud=
io. The iM2 works with any app that has the ability to record audio, inclu=
ding the iPhone's movie capture app. The price of the iM2 s $80 today.

There is little reason to think that the iM2 will work any getter than one =
of Tascam's $100 pocket recorders. But if you carry an iPhone already, the=
iM2 might be useful as an emergency backup recorder. It will certainly im=
prove the audio when you make a movie with the phone. Maybe it could be use=
ful in situations when your subject is uncomfortable with a full-size recor=
ding kit.
The iM2 works with the iPad and iPod Touch 4G as well as the iPhone.
