This is a very long saga and I will keep this as brief as possible.

After a long wait I received my replacement set from Sennheiser of
MKH 8020s in early November. We've been having a long spell of warm
dry weather. I've done quite a few hours of recording with the new
mics and no problems.

Diagnosis was: <the issue was due to the microphone capsule not
making correct earth contact, it has been adjusted and extra earth
contact applied internally> Sennheiser supposedly had the problem
well and truly sorted.

But, OH NO!!!!!

Today while recording some Noisy Friarbirds singing just before it
began to rain (noon, 23 degrees C, heavy overcast with occasional
spot of rain) the left hand mic began to fizz and kept on fizzing for
some minutes.

So Sennheiser have NOT solved the problem.

How are you going with your mics Lizzie? And anyone else who had
their 80XX series mics replaced recently?
