If the figure eight microphones were perfect, then there wouldn't be any
difference between Blumlein and Mid-Side.=A0 Each technique can be freely
converted into the other.

But in reality the polar patterns of microphones narrow with increasing
frequency.=A0 Sennheiser MKH30 perhaps least of all.=A0 If you consider a t=
ypical
recording scenario with a primary subject or subjects in the center of the =
sound
image, in a Blumlein recording the subject will be 45 degrees off-axis from=
 each
microphone, whereas with M-S it will be on-axis for the mid microphone.
