Hi Robin,
             With more speculation than fact, its perhaps using this IC:
http://www.wolfsonmicro.com/products/codecs/WM8860/

I know the Edirol/Roland R09HR used the stereo version.

And (unconfirmed fact) "rather a lot" of the portable recorders are using s=
imilar chipsets.

Problem with the video is the preamp levels are changed between mic's?
