Could be plus the sensitivity differences 3.2mV vs 30mV or higher - I do kn=
ow I nearly jumped out my skin due to the proximity of the thunderclap, at =
the same time I was reaching to pickup and switch off the recorder- boom...=
 not a good idea, when recording thunder.

The distortion of the beyers due to the mass of the coil etc is way differe=
nt, they also have far higher max sound pressure handling.
