Sony D50 Internal mics (20dBA)

Subject: Sony D50 Internal mics (20dBA)
noise floor of the recorder is -126 dBu
Sensitivity is rated at -49.8 dB (3.2mV/PA in old money)
Self noise estimated at 94-(-49.8 -(-126)) = 17.8 dB
However in reality due to the 8dB presense "lift" they sounds far lower.

Levels have not been matched for playback, they are as recorded at max gain for
each particular mic.

The clock tick is extremely quiet.

Comments welcome.

Disclaimer: I understand dynamics may not capture "depth" as well as electret
condensors although Ive yet to prove this, they do not fit to boundaries very
well, handling noise vs electrets is FAR higher, wind sensitivity is also
higher - making practical use in the filed interesting to say the least. Those
recording in the 70's-80's can probably give more feedback. For static / fixed
setups 'under the porch' that are humidity sensitive the dynamics are proving
to be much better than I expected relative to the electrets.

For the ear rig using lower sensitivity dynamics (1.6mV/PA) an example can be
found here:-

This recording features the BeyerDynamic mics (no ears) recording ambience
around 30dBA at the quietest level.
