Recorder on microphone shock mount

I've started using my PCM-M10 with an ME66/K6 in a home made shock mount, which
I hand hold when recording, mainly for id purposes. I've been clipping the
recorder to my belt so I have one hand free for binoculars, but I'm finding it
very awkward coping with the two separate devices connected by the microphone
cable, especially as I'm often jumping in and out of the car with it all.

I'm considering attaching the recorder to the shock mount somehow, so it's all
one unit and I can wind all the cord up and not have bits dangling.

Does anyone else do this? I can't really see any problems other than the
handling noise when I start and stop recordings, which should be reduced by the
mount. I can use the remote control if it's a problem. Rain will be a problem,
but I generally stop using it in all but the lightest rain.
