There is another very interesting/handy feature (undocumented) of the
ME66/K6 or any of the ME/K6 series microphones that can extend the
microphone internal battery life and that is if you are using a preamp
or recorder with unlimited phantom power, don't turn the K6 battery
switch on. The ME/K6 microphones will run on Phantom power when it is
available simply by not turning the battery switch on. The K6 battery
switch only controls or disconnects the internal battery, it has nothing
to do with the operation of the microphone.
Normally I use the ME66/K6 on the internal battery even when Phantom
power is available as the K6 internal battery life is much longer than
drawing Phantom power out of a recorder and exhausting the recorder
batteries. However I often use Sound Devices 302 MixPre preamps with an
external AGM high capacity battery (SOLAR charged) as the power source
and in this instance, I leave the K6 battery switch off and let the
virtually unlimited SD 302 phantom power operate the ME/K6 microphones.
