Peter,

I would say, turn the bass roll off switch on the mic to OFF position.

On the recorder, you may be OK with high setting, others who have  
Sony recorders might like to comment.  For the Olympus LS10 the best  
results were with Low sense, high volume, but maybe not so with the  
Sony?
