To answer this question, it would be necessary to know the internal design =
details of the recorders and I'm afraid that this information is available =
to us.
If the recorder already had a sufficiently large RAM (implemented in hardwa=
re), then a firmware update could add the pre-record feature.
The initial firmware version of the (now discontinued) TASCAM DR-1 for inst=
ance did not support the prerecord buffer. A later update fortunately added=
that feature.
I'm afraid that we also depend on the policy of the manufacturer in this re=
gard.
To hack such a recorder you will need very detailed information on its inte=
rnal design (which is only available at Olympus) and you must be an experie=
nced engineer. So, I'm afraid that there is little hope for a hack...
