It's taken several days to respond to John, Klas and Robin. Many thanks to
those
who've help me on the recorder decision. I recommendrd the Olympus LS-11 for
all
reasons sited (I wish I had one - the menus in my Edirol 09HR are orange
catacombs ... can't see the screen outside....)

Before responding I reread old posts, took a mini workshop at guitar center
and listened to your sound samples (Senn HD590 headphones, Nuforce DAC with
macbook pro).

Robin's music samples of the Sony M-10 and LS-10 confirmed what you each said
about the omni mics with this application (not good in
rooms). http://www.theatreofnoise.com/search?q=sony+and+ls+10

Klas, thank you for your convincing "Fourwheel" (not enough roll off!!). That
vehicle sounds as close as the bird, e.g. at the 30 yd. line on a football
field. Is there any kind of mic set up which would make it sound 150 meters
away??

(starting a new topic re use of XLR with PIP)
