> I have a similar question, except I want to run unbalance stereo plug-in-=
power microphones about 100' into the back yard. I plan to use a stereo min=
i to xlr 3pin adapter on each end, and use a star quad type cable for the m=
ain run. Left and Right on pins 2 and 3 of the cable. Would this work in an=
urban area with lots of radio and RF around? What would be a better option=
?
I run PIP mics at the end of 50' very small diameter video cables (each mic=
separately), and at the end of a 100' two-conductor and shield cable (ster=
eo pair). I've never had an RF problem except picking up my own mobile phon=
e. I even got away with recording in a church in the city, where taxi trans=
mitters can cause havoc. You never know, maybe I was just lucky.
For me the main worry with long cables for PIP mics is the high-frequency r=
olloff from the relatively high source impedance of the mics (2-3 Kohms), a=
nd the cable capacitance. I haven't measured the rolloff, but my long cable=
recordings sound ok.
