from preamps and mixers and know what it is capable of... I have other
recorders that could be used however experience has proven to me that the
PMD-661 performs extremely well in this mode of operation... And the
PMD-661 has very good, low noise built in mic preamps when used for making
new recordings...
However, you mention your computer, if the end result of digitizing your
analog cassette tapes is to use/store them on your computer, eliminate the
recorder and get a USB audio interface that has line level inputs for your
computer and go directly into the computer from the cassette deck using
Audacity software as the recording/digitizing interface...
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Get the 1.3.12 beta version...
The good news is Audacity, one of the best audio editors in my estimation,
is free, its a very solid performing audio editing/recording package
developed as a joint venture in the Boston Area universities and available
for download. Audacity also has a very strong support group and forum...
Audacity is my first choice and what I use all the time...
For USB Audio Interfaces, a knowlegable person that can advise you is AJ
Petersen at Sweetwater Sound, www.sweetwater.com 800-222-4700 ext.1348 or

AJ is a wealth of information and my goto guy when I need audio gear...
