I am re-positioning by first of all converting my stereo LR signal into its=
M and S components (regardless of whether it began life as an MS recording=
or not). Then I am using EQ to alter the balance of M and S at some freque=
ncies relative to others.
As you know, increasing the S level relative to the M level will widen the =
stereo image, and vice versa. Using a low frequency shelving boost on the S=
channel allows me to increase the level of the S signal at low frequencies=
only. The end result is that I have widened the image at low frequencies b=
ut not at high frequencies. For many recordings made with coincident pairs,=
that's all that is needed to re-align the fundamental and lower harmonics =
of a sound source with its higher harmonics.
