Doug,
I've been using the FR2-LE for several years now, as my (in tent) rec=
order. Depending on the temps in the field, I've been getting between 6 - 1=
0 hrs on a fresh charged Tamiya battery pack. One pack will usually get me =
one nights recording session. Other factors on the life of the battery, wou=
ld be (of course) how much actual recording I do in the overnight, and how =
long the unit is on standby.
I've went through several sets of Tamiya packs, and don't find them to be a=
s long lived, as claimed by others. One blew up while charging it...and wha=
t a mess it was. I've learned (the hard way) to get the battery pack unplug=
ged and out of the recorder (right away, after I'm finished), and that seem=
s to increase the chances that the pack will recharge again, when needed. I=
've honestly never tried the recorder with AA batteries,to compare, after h=
earing about how the Fostex hogs them.
I have no complaints about the Fostex itself, and have had some good result=
s. I either use Sony ECM-55b mics (in camp), or when looking to record a sp=
ecific soundscape, use a pair of AT3032s.
All these good recommendations, came from this list and members.
