It is a projection & similar projections were made regarding CD & DVD longevity, which have proven to be far less permanent by orders of magnitude. Additionally, even with a verifiable MTBF of 1,000,000 hours, it is still possible for any given specimen to fail within the first hour of use. It's just statistically less likely.
