My wife listened closely, and then pronounced "Flicker". When I asked why Flicker and not Pileated, she simply said "it's the wrong tone for a Pileated". As I said, I constantly confuse the two, even though we have several of each that regularly visit our yard. A sonogram may well provide a definitive answer.
