The bug suits work OK for the smaller mosquitoes. The big guys get through
it with ease.

I am partial to the citronella based repellents. I have developed an allerg=
y
to DEET- gives me symptoms like a panic attack. No fun there.

I try to use physical barriers when possible. Wind-stop gloves from places
like NorthFace are good. A fleece jacket, heavy pants and knee-high boots
all add to the barrier and the boots seem to keep the ticks and chiggers
from attaching and crawling up. It certainly gets hot as heck decked out
that way but you get to keep a pint or two of blood J

Curt, that was a terrific write-up about the weekend. I wish that I could
have made it. Sounds like a great time and I am glad that you recorded some
of the conversations. What recorder did you use for the conversation
recording?

Thanks a lot,

Thank you guys,

I think we all came away with valuable new insights. And more
importantly, new and deepened friendships.

Mike... good question about bug gear. Thankfully the ticks, flies and
mosquitos were not yet in full bloom the weekend of the nature
recordists campout. They are now.

I don't have any specific bug gear myself, and I despise DEET. My
current solution is to stay out of the thickest woods during the
height of tick/mosquito/gnat season. If a summer recording trip to the
Arctic ever presented itself, I'd have to quickly make friends with
mosquito netting and some of the non-DEET repellants.

I'm sure others here have better answers.
