To me documentation and metadata are the big challenge of recording today. =
We've pretty well solved the problems of microphones and recorders, and the=
latter keep getting better and cheaper.
Cameras are leading the way with metadata. A photo file from my Canon Digit=
al Rebel comes with at least 18 items of metadata embedded--not only date a=
nd time, but lens type, exposure values, etc. My iPhone photos come with GP=
S coordinates. Unfortunately, there is less demand (no mass market?) for au=
dio recorders including metadata.
We may have to invent it as some kind of sidecar to the recorder. Perhaps a=
calibrator tool that not only records a known SPL, but both speaks and tra=
nsmits in machine-readable form GPS and weather data.
